Unmute Us! protests against event restrictions in the Netherlands

Protests against the closure of events in the Netherlands took place in six Dutch cities on Saturday, August 21.

The 'Unmute Us' protests came in response to the Dutch government's ban on large-scale events until November, announced last week. The move was prompted by concerns about the spread of the delta, which has proven to be highly contagious.

Unmute Us! began in support of dance music festivals, but has since developed to encompass the whole events sector.

The movement protests the fact that festivals as well as cultural and business events have been put on hold while tens of thousands of people are allowed to gather in football stadiums. At the time of writing, more than 1,500 organisations have signed in their support of the Unmute Us! message.
